Location - South Dalziel Parish Church, Motherwell, Scotland. Dimensions - Completed - This project which was completed in 1986. I dealt with a small committee of Chuch Elders headed by the Minister The Rev.James Allen who became a good friend of mine. The windows were made in two stages. The windows deal with four of the most powerful themes in Christianity and are a modern addition to a series of windows within the church that illustrate the life of Christ and conclude with the resurrection of Christ. I was asked to work on a figurative theme which I was pleased to do. It was my intention only to show one figure in each window. While designing these windows I found the idea of making a play on the spike like quality of palm leaves and the light to create a dramatic quality in the lighting. The windows show:
The Entry into Jerusalem
The Agony in the Garden The windows are ordered from right to left in keeping with the placing of the other windows in the church leading up to the Resurrection Window. Although I have made few figurative works since these windows the symbolism I created for the first time for this project has proved to be been very important in many subsequent commissions.
