South and West Windows - Texts

Background Information

These windows which occupy a space of about 75mt/sq fill the area on the south and west walls of the church.

The main theme for these windows is taken from the Book of Revelation and many extracts from this book are written here and therefore the images contained within the windows are self explanatory.

These two sections were made in 1995-96. The complete project took over two years to make.

The theme of the window begins in the corner of the south and west walls.
The theme starts with the throne and works out from both sides.
There are two views of the city so that all twelve gates are shown. Two views of the of the river and the tree are also seen. In the photographs showing these windows I have only included one side and one view of the city.

Something of the composition of these windows can be seen in the interior pictures so I have included a button for this section at the bottom of this page.

The Throne

The Book of Revelation.

Chapter 1
8. I am the Alpha and the Omega said the Lord God.

20. this is the secret meaning of the seven stars you saw on my right hand. and of the seven gold lamps
The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches and the seven lamps are the seven churches themselves.

Chapter 4
1. after this I had a vision a door stood open in heaven and the voice that I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said
"come up here and I will show you what must take place hereafter"
2. at once the spirit came apon me, there in heaven stood a throne on it sat one whose appearence was like Jasper or corneleon and round it was a rainbow bright as an emerald. In a circle about his throne were twenty four other thrones..
5. from the throne came flashes of lightning and peals of thunder, burning before the throne were seven flaming torches the seven spirits of God and in front of it streached what looked like a sea of glass or a sheet of ice.
In the center round the throne itself were four living creatures covered with eyes in front and behind

7. The first creature was like a lion,
the second like an ox,
the third had a human face
and the fourth was like an eagle in flight.
Each of the four living creatures had six wings and eyes all round and inside them.

Chapter 5
1. I saw on the right hand of the one who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice
"who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll"

5. One of the elders said to me "Do not weep the Lion from the tribe of Judah the shoot growing from David's stock has won the right to open the scroll and its seven seals.
6. then I saw a lamb with the marks of the sacrifice on him standing with the four living creatures between the throne and the Elders ...
7. the lamb came and recieved the scroll from the right hand of the one who sat on the throne as he did so the four living creatures and the twenty four elders prostrated themselves before the lamb......

Chapter ??
5. The one who sat on the throne said
"I am making all things new write this down he said for these words are trustworthy and true."
6. Then he said to me,
"It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give water from the spring of life as a gift...."

9. ....come he said and I will show you the bride, the wife of the lamb

Chapter 22 12 I am coming soon and bringing with me my recompense to repay everyone according to what he has done 13. I am the alpha and the Omega the first and the last the beginning and the end.

New Jerusalem

Chapter 21
1. I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had vanished, and there was no longer any sea.
2. I saw the holy city the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God....
3. I heard a loud voice proclaiming from the throne:
Now God has his dwelling among mankind.! He shall dwell among them and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them.

10. So in the spirit carried me away to a great mountain, and showed me Jerusalem, the holy city coming down out of the heaven from God;
11. It shone with the Glory of God, it had the radience of some priceless jewel, like a jasper as clear as crystal.
12. It had a great and lofty wall with twelve gates, at which were stationed twelve angels;
on the gates were inscribed the the names of the twelve tribes of Israel.
13. There were three gates to the east, three to the north, three to the south and three to the west.
14. The city wall had twelve foundation stones, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15. The angel who spoke to me carried a gold measuring rod to measure the city, its gates and its wall.
16. The city had four sides, it was as wide as it was long. Measured by his rod, it was twelve thousand furlongs, its length and breadth and height being equal.
17. Its wall was one hundred and forty cubits high, by human measurement, which the angel used.
18. The wall was built of jasper, while the city itself was of pure gold, bright as pure glass.
19. the foundatioms of the city walls were adorned with precious stones of evry kind, The first of the foundation stones being jasper, the second lapus luzuli, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,
20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth cornelian, the seventh chrystolite, the eigth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysophrase, the eleventh turquoise, and the twelfth amethyst.
21. The twelve gates were pearls, each gate fashioned from a single pearl. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like translucent glass.

25. The gates of the city shall never be shut by day nor will there be any night there.

River and Tree of Life

Chapter 22

The angel showed me the river of the water of life sparkling like crystal flowing from the throne of God and the lamb down the middle of the city street.
On either side of the river stood a tree of life which yields twelve crops of fruit one for each month of the year. The leaves of the trees are for the healing of all nations.
The throne of God and the lamb will be there and his servants shall worship him. They shall see him face to face and bear his name on their foreheads.
There shall be no more night nor will they need the light of lamp or of sun for the Lord God will give them light and they shall reign forever.

14. Happy are those who wash their robes clean who shall be free to eat from the tree of life and may enter the city by the gates 16. I Jesus have sent my angel to you with this testimony for the churches I am the offspring of David the shoot growing from the stock, the bright star of Dawn.

Come stay with the spirit and the bride
Come let each hearer reply
Let the thirsty come
Let whoever wishes accept the water of life as a gift.
